La famille Perele – le père, la mère, les jumelles (nées en 1939), les deux grand-mères et les deux soeurs de madame Perele, qui étaient encore adolescentes au début de la guerre – vivait à Montélimar dans la Drôme. Les deux frères de madame Perele militaient dans une cellule locale de la Résistance. Dans la nuit du 22 octobre 1943, à la suite d’une dénonciation, les soldats allemands envahirent la maison des Perele, tuèrent le mari d’un coup de baïonnette et arrêtèrent madame Perele qui fut incarcérée dans la prison municipale. Les soldats n’avaient pas inquiété les deux grand-mères et les soeurs, sans doute parce que les jumelles, alors âgées de quatre ans, étaient atteintes de la scarlatine. Après le départ des soldats allemands, les jeunes filles réussirent à contacter l’un de leurs frères résistants; ce dernier envoya un ami, Badon, la nuit même. L’ami emmena les six femmes chez lui. Il possédait une ferme à Puy-St-Martin, village situé à quinze kilomètres au nord est de Montélimar. Les Badon, des protestants, étaient opposés à la politique de Vichy. Ils accueillirent sans hésitation les Perele, qui arrivaient chez eux à l’improviste – et ne demandèrent aucune contrepartie. Ils mettaient ainsi en application leurs principes religieux et humanitaires. Les six jeunes juives vécurent chez les Badon jusqu’à la fin de l’année 1945. Traitées comme des membres de la famille, les jumelles, Micheline et Claudine trouvèrent des amis en la personne des enfants Badon, Jean et Monette. Sans la tragédie qui avait précipité leur arrivée, les Perele auraient coulé des jours heureux chez leurs sauveurs. Les deux familles restèrent en contact après la guerre et après la mort des Badon, continuèrent à correspondre avec Jean et Monette.
Le 31 juillet 1995, Yad Vashem a décerné à Edouard Badon, sa femme Emilie et leurs enfants Jean et Monette le titre de Juste des Nations.
