Clément et Marie Trillat vivaient avec leurs deux grands enfants, Robert, vingt-deux ans, et Isabelle, vingt ans, dans leur ferme de Passins (Isère), village d’exploitants agricoles spécialisés dans la culture et le traitement du tabac. Avant la guerre, on n’avait jamais vu de Juif dans cet endroit isolé. Plusieurs Juifs y trouvèrent cependant refuge durant l’Occupation. La famille Trillat accueillit en 1943 deux enfants juifs, Yves Stoleru, neuf ans, et son frère Lionel, six ans. Leurs parents, qui habitaient Nantes, s’étaient enfuis à l’approche des Allemands et avaient entendu parler de la ferme de Passins par l’une de leur prochequi y avait trouvé asile pour elle et son jeune fils. Moyennant une modeste somme pour couvrir leur entretien, les Trillat acceptèrent d’héberger les deux enfants qui vécurent à Passins jusqu’à la Libération. Ils fréquentaient l’école du village et aidaient aux travaux de la ferme et notamment à la récolte du tabac. Ils étaient traités comme des membres de la famille. C’était surtout Isabelle qui s’occupait d’eux mais son frère Robert prenait sa part des risques et du danger. Toute la famille s’efforçait de donner aux deux enfants un sentiment de sécurité et de bien-être.
Le 16 août 1994, Yad Vashem a décerné à Clément et Marie Trillat, ainsi qu’à leurs enfants Robert et Isabelle Trillat, le titre de Juste parmi les Nations.
