Augustin et Jeanne Devaux habitaient à Villerey dans l’Orne, en zone occupée. Pendant l’Occupation, ils cachèrent le petit Herman Przedborski, né en 1932. Son père était prisonnier de guerre. En 1942, sa mère plaça l’enfant chez la famille Devaux. Il y vécut de 1942 à 1944. Les Devaux donnèrent également asile à son cousin, Lazare Lewin, s’occupant des deux enfants comme s’ils étaient les leurs, en dépit des dangers de dénonciation et des bouleversements entraînés par les combats qui suivirent le débarquement des troupes alliées sur les côtes normandes le 6 juin 1944. A la Libération, la mère d’Herman vint rechercher les deux enfants. Pendant de longues années, Herman poursuivit une correspondance abondante avec ses sauveteurs.
Le 26 octobre 1989, Yad Vashem a décerné à Augustin et Jeanne Devaux le titre de Juste parmi les Nations.
