Les Jouve étaient fermiers au Chambon-sur-Lignon (Haute-Loire). Après les premières arrestations de Juifs dans cette région, le couple, sollicité par l’OSE, accepta d’accueillir un enfant juif. C’est ainsi que le petit Léon Minkowski arriva chez eux au printemps 1943. Son père, arrêté à Paris, avait été déporté vers l’est; sa soeur, mariée, avait réussi à s’enfuir avec sa famille. Les Jouve traitèrent le garçonnet comme leur propre fils, lui prodiguant chaleur et affection. Ils prenaient pourtant un grand risque en cachant un Juif. La région fourmillait en effet de soldats allemands, qui recherchaient les résistants venant récupérer les armes parachutées à leur intention par les Alliés. Léon vécut chez les fermiers jusqu’en août 1944. Lorsqu’il dut les quitter pour retrouver sa famille, la séparation fut difficile pour lui comme pour eux.
Le 28 avril 1989, Yad Vashem a décerné à Monsieur et Madame Jouve le titre de Juste parmi les Nations.
